Wigay Aboriginal Culture Park

The Wigay Aboriginal Culture Park is a joint initiative of TAFE NSW-North Coast Institute, Kempsey Shire Council, and the Guriwa CDEP.

Operating as an Aboriginal food park and nursery, the Wigay Aboriginal Culture Park is located on a reclaimed landfill site which is owned by Kempsey Shire Council. The Djigay Centre of Excellence in Aboriginal Education (located at the neighbouring Kempsey TAFE Campus) is responsible for the day to day operations of the Park and the Park is used for horticultural and cultural training. The Park is open to the public, and tourists regularly visit the site. Guided tours and Aboriginal food experiences are offered, and there is souvenir and plant sales.

The Park has been designed and built by local Aboriginal people. Experienced Aboriginal guides provide visitors with an explanation of over 100 varieties of traditional and contemporary uses of plants and tasting of special plants. Visitors will also be able to experience locally prepared bush tucker morning teas and lunch.
