This is a practical, studio-based course, incorporating a range of current industry practices and studio-based support skills. The course is designed for people who want to become a visual artist/crafts practitioner. It provides you with practical skills and knowledge across a range of visual arts areas, or in one or two specialised areas. It gives you the skills to support a small visual arts practice or to work with or for other visual artists. On completion you will produce a "portfolio" of art work for use in application/s for further training, or to seek work in the visual arts industry. Contact each campus to confirm which studio-based electives are offered at that location. You will also need to purchase materials and cover other costs which may arise during the course.

Career Opportunities: Artist/crafts worker, arts assistant, technical assistant in employed or self-employed arts or contemporary crafts related work.

Articulation: When you finish this course you can articulate into the Visual Arts Diploma 7481, or do other TAFE NSW courses in the fine arts, museum practices or some university courses. Entry Requirements: NSW Higher School Certificate (or equivalent).

Student Selection: Your application will be assessed using the following selection criteria:
1. Creative applications of skills and knowledge in fine arts or visual arts areas
2. Imaginative ideas and/or concepts applied to work
3. Creative or cultural awareness in a medium or area appropriate to the fine arts.

Selection Method: Your selection into this course will be based on the information provided on the TAFE NSW Application Form and: A portfolio or diary containing seven (7) pieces of work. Applicants should contact their local campus for further information, closing dates and additional portfolio requirements regarding the presentation of work.
