The Visual Arts Diploma is a practical, studio-based course, incorporating a range of current professional practices, and studio based on-the-job workplace components. All teachers and many support staff are practicing artists, craftspersons or are recognised experts in the visual arts industry.

The course provides you with in-depth education and training in the visual arts/contemporary crafts areas if you want to operate a studio based small business or develop skills in a range of areas to support visual artists or to specialise in a chosen vocational area to become a practicing visual artist or art/crafts worker.

If you intend to work in the Visual Arts industry you can undertake a broad based training across a range of visual arts areas, or choose to specialise in the early stages of the course. You can select to focus on either practical and/or business skills.

On completion, you can seek employment into a broad range of visual arts/crafts and related industries, or start your own business in the visual arts field.Contact each campus to confirm which studio-based elective is offered at that location.

Career Opportunities: Artist, arts or contemporary crafts related work or self-employment, arts assistant, technical assistant. Project based employment positions are also available in areas of visual arts like sculpture, printmaking photography, glass (hot glass, warm glass and stained glass), digital art and multimedia, ceramics, public arts, basic areas of design, arts consultancy, administration, picture framing, conservation and set construction.

Articulation: When you finish this course you can articulate into the 90348NSW Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts, TAFE course no: 7482, or do other TAFE NSW courses in the fine arts, museum practices or some university courses.

Entry Requirements: Completion of Year 12 with a minimum of 10 units in the NSW HSC Record of Achievement (or equivalent statement from another educational authority), plus submission of a portfolio containing (7) examples of work, or completion of a Certificate III in Visual Arts or equivalent and submission of a portfolio containing (7) examples of work.

Coffs Harbour Education Campus - This is a continuing course. Places may be available in some units.
Full-time, 12 hours per week for 2 years, Mondays and Thursdays, 9.30 am - 3.30 pm.

Murwillumbah - You need to have completed a Certificate IV qualification in Visual Art or equivalent to apply for this course.
Full-time/flexible delivery, 3-4 days per week for 36 weeks.
