This course is for people who want to undertake comprehensive training in the creative and practical production skills required for a career in the design and production of contemporary furniture.
You study new technologies, including new materials and studio design practices used in the design and production of furniture. Course work has an emphasis on workshop methods, marketing and business studies, and individually creative and innovative expression, including the use of computer-aided design and modelling. During the course you will be encouraged to develop a thorough awareness of the various technical and creative aspects of working as a designer with a focus on domestic, commercial, corporate and customised furniture products. You may develop individual craftwork for sale through gallery exhibition.
When you have completed this course you may work as furniture designer and/or maker.
Career Opportunities: Furniture designer/maker.
Articulation: When you finish this course you may consider further study at TAFE NSW, in a range of other related creative areas, including other courses in furniture design. You could also consider studying product, industrial or object design at university.
Entry Requirements: NSW Higher School Certificate (or equivalent), or NSW School Certificate (or equivalent), with two years full-time study in a relevant area.
