This course provides you with vocational training in the theoretical and practical aspects of ceramics for work in the ceramics industry as an exhibiting ceramic artist, studio production potter or ceramic manufacturer.
You will receive studio-based training in well-equipped and safe facilities. You will also have the opportunity to access studios outside classes for practice, individual project work and exhibitions. Guest artists, visiting lecturer programs, studio visits and frequent excursions to viewing sites and galleries are essential parts of the course.
There is a core of professional studies modules, including occupational health and safety, which provide knowledge and skills essential to survival in the art world. Before applying for enrolment, you should think about the area of ceramics in which you eventually want to work. The Year One strands include specific modules in Visual Arts, Studio Production, and a General strand for people without prior experience or knowledge of ceramics or who do not want to specialise at this stage. In Year Two you continue the studio strand area of study in which common practical and theoretical skills are thoroughly covered.

Articulation: When you finish this course you may be eligible to do 90798NSW Advanced Diploma of Ceramics, TAFE Course no:
7566 or various other TAFE NSW fine arts or design courses or a related university degree.
Entry Requirements: Completion of Year 12 with a minimum of 10 units in the NSW HSC Record of Achievement (or equivalent statement from another educational authority), plus submission of a portfolio. Alternatively, a Ceramics Certificate IV level course or equivalent, plus submission of a portfolio.

You need to have completed 90343NSW Certificate IV in Ceramics - General to apply for this course.
Full-time, 18 hours per week for 36 weeks, Tuesdays - Thursdays, 9.30 am to 4.00 pm.
Successful applicants will be required to present a portfolio at interview in early December 2008. Details will be advised in writing after the application closing date.
