This course introduces you to the basic practical, technical and creative skills used in a range of fine arts areas and prepares you for further study. It gives you practical experience in the safe use of studio-based processes and materials. You will also learn about basic history and contemporary art practices in the context of the fine arts.
You learn to construct images exploring your own artistic ideas under the direction of artist teachers. You have the opportunity to gain essential drawing skills, design and composition skills, and build an awareness of contemporary art practices and presentation skills. You can also prepare a portfolio for entry into further training or self-employment/employment opportunities in fine arts.
You will also need to purchase materials and cover other costs, which may occur during the course. This course is being reviewed and may be replaced with a new course. Contact the campus section for further details.

Articulation: This course prepares you for entry into the 90341NSW Certificate IV in Fine Arts, TAFE course no: 7530,90340NSW Diploma of Fine Arts, TAFE course no: 7531 or 90339NSW Advanced Diploma of Fine Arts, TAFE course no: 7532. You may get advanced standing or credit for some modules.
Entry Requirements: NSW School Certificate (or equivalent, from another educational authority), or 90960NSW Certificate II in Fine Arts
or equivalent, plus submission of drawings and portfolio containing five (5) examples of work.
Student Selection:
SELECTION CRITERIA Your application will be assessed using the following selection criteria: 1. Creative applications of skills and knowledge in fine arts or visual arts areas. 2. Imaginative ideas and/or concepts applied to work. 3. Creative or cultural awareness in a medium or area appropriate to the fine arts.
SELECTION METHOD Your selection into this course will be based on the information provided on the TAFE NSW Application Form and:
1. A portfolio or diary of work, sketches or projects.
2. Photographs of works or performance or projects in which you were involved.
3. An interview and panel assessment.
A panel of artists representing the local visual arts industry/community and TAFE NSW will assess your application. You should contact your campus for further information, closing dates and additional portfolio requirements regarding the presentation of work.
