This course is for people who want to develop the skills, knowledge and abilities required for working and participating in interior decoration and related industries. It gives you a solid grounding in the basics of design, colour application and historical colour usage in renovations and restoration work, and the skills and techniques applicable to renovating and remodelling interiors utilising creative selection of fixtures, furniture and finishes. This course also covers relevant industry OH&S requirements. You complete presentations as innovative solutions to client needs. There has in recent times been substantial activity in the renovation market with a number of associated businesses improving their activity in this area; for example most paint companies now provide a wide range of products and advisory services for the renovation market. Similarly so called 'lifestyle' shows on television and advisory pressure from real estate agents for domestic 'make-overs' to improve sales has added further interest for people with the requisite skills.
Career Opportunities: Trainee interior decorator, interior stylist, or renovation adviser.
Articulation: When you finish this course you can apply to do the 90352NSW Diploma of Interior Decoration (TAFE NSW Course no 7556) with credit.
Entry Requirements: NSW Higher School Certificate (or equivalent, from another educational authority). International students must attain one of the following minimum standards of proficiency in English: International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 6, Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) 550, Combined Universities Language Test (CULT) 60% or International Second Language Proficiency Rating (ISLPR) 3+, or equivalent.
