This course is for people who want to learn and apply fundamental creative, practical skills and knowledge as a means of gaining employment at an introductory level in the fashion industry. Depending on the electives selected, you will learn about different aspects of the fashion industry, including:
- basic sketching;
- identifying and applying design processes;
- identifying and selecting fibres and fabrics according to their performance and handling characteristics;
- product development processes such as basic pattern making, cutting, machining, embellishing and finishing fashion garments, dyeing and printing techniques to produce Aboriginal textile designs, marketing to local outlets and using computing technology relevant to the fashion industry. You can select a special series of units targeted to the development and application of the unique fashion and textile designs used in Aboriginal culture, enabling you to specialise in fashion or textile design for a market requiring this speciality. In a highly supervised training environment you will learn what it is like to work in the fashion industry, and how to work safely and produce high quality products. This is a hands-on course that allows for creative expression to develop and be displayed through the development and production of fashion garments and/or textile products.

Career Opportunities: Junior in the fashion industry. The coures will also help you make an informed decision about pursuing further training for a career in the industry.

Articulation: When you finish this course you may be eligible to do a higher level qualification in Applied Fashion Design and Technology.

Entry Requirements: NSW School Certificate or equivalent. Students with LMT20606 Certificate II in Clothing Production (Intermediate), TAFE NSW Couse no 19501 or LMT20706 Certificate II in Clothing Production (Complex or Multiple Processes), TAFE NSW Course no 19502 are encouraged to apply.
