This course is designed to provide the students with the skills, knowledge, applications and attitudes required for entry level positions within the accounting profession. It provides a broad introduction to the accounting profession and gives individuals the opportunity to develop a range of foundation skills and knowledge in accounting. Students will learn about o the accounting profession and its role in Australia's economy o computer generated financial reports o assets, liabilities, income and expense definitions o accounting transactional data entry o the different forms of business entities o banking processes and the relationship to business records o other skills leading to a range of jobs in the Accounting professional environment, depending on units selected.
Career Opportunities: Career/employment opportunities can be found in commerce, finance and accounting practitioner's offices as bookkeepers and financial clerks. Greater opportunities become available by following pathways that include the TAFE NSW Advanced Diploma in Accounting leading to a Bachelor Degree majoring in Accounting.
Articulation: This course provides students with a pathway to further accounting studies leading to a career in the accounting industry. This may be by way of traineeships or further TAFE and/or higher educational studies. It also provides operational skills that equip the student for a variety of opportunities not only in the financial services industry but also over a wide range of commercial enterprises.
