This course is for people who work or want to work in residential facilities and/or in community agencies and day centres as a leisure officer, recreational activities officer, diversional therapy assistant or support worker.
You will develop the skills and knowledge to assist in the design, implementation and evaluation of health and leisure for clients. This includes knowledge of leisure and health programming, legal and ethical considerations, and workplace safety as well as specialist communication skills.
In some circumstances students may be required to undertake a criminal records check or a Working with Children Check.
Career Opportunities: Leisure officer, recreation activities officer, diversional therapy assistant, disability officer - day support, support worker - elders club.
Articulation: When you finish this course you can apply for advanced standing in Certificate IV and Diploma qualifications in a range of community services areas including aged care work, disability work, community welfare, youth work, and alcohol and other drug work. You may also be eligible for more advanced study in related courses outside TAFE NSW.
Entry Requirements: NSW School Certificate (or equivalent statement from another educational authority). Relevant life and work experience may also be considered. Completion of a Certificate III qualification from the Community Services Training Package prior to enrolment in this course, or significant industry experience is recommended.
