CHC40102 Certificate IV in Aged Care Work

This course is for people who are employed in aged care work or have prior experience in aged care work who want to develop their knowledge and skills in this area. It does not qualify you to provide direct care services to clients. For this, you should complete a CHC30102 Certificate III in Aged Care Work or a CHC30202 Certificate III in Home and Community Care.

When you finish this course you will be able to competently undertake autonomous work and team leadership within aged care residential and centre- based services. Specifically, you will learn how to:
* assess service needs of older people with complex needs,
* plan and monitor service delivery,
* undertake relevant administrative work, plan and conduct group activities,
* implement and monitor OH&S policies and procedures,
* conduct recreation programs for older people, and
* organise an effective work environment.

You should be aware that if clinical placement in a public or private hospital or medical facility is part of this course, you may need to undergo occupational screening and be vaccinated against infectious diseases. Career Opportunities: Team leader, house or unit supervisor, field worker, volunteer co-ordinator, recreation activity officer or day activity worker.

Articulation: This course aligns to the Community Services Training Package and has recognition across a range of community service sectors including community and welfare services, aged care, disability services, leisure, and health. When you finish this course you may be eligible for advanced standing in other qualifications from the Community Services Training Package.

Entry Requirements: NSW School Certificate (or equivalent, from another educational authority) and significant industry experience providing personal care.

Selection Criteria: Your application will be assessed using the following selection criteria:
Evidence of ability to complete the course, based on:
C1 Your previous education and training (Part C in application form - up to 20 points);
C2 Your paid or unpaid work experience (up to 20 points);
C3 Your life and community experience (up to 20 points).

Demonstrated relevance of the course:
D1 Relevance of course to your career plans and goals (Part D in application form - up to 15 points);
D2 Knowledge of the career area (up to 15 points).

Other factors relating to any previous disadvantages that may be taken into account in the selection process (Part E in application form - up to 10 points).
