This course is for people who want to acquire building and management skills in the residential construction industry. The Home Building Service may consider issuing graduates a licence as Building Contractor in NSW.
You will learn about the social, environmental and legal aspects of residential construction projects. You will also learn about building construction, quantities and estimating, management, setting out, site safety and computing.
The Home Building Service may consider issuing graduates of this course who also have the BCG30103 Certificate III in Bricklaying/Blocklaying or the BCG30203 Certificate III in Carpentry a licence to operate as a Building Contractor in NSW.
Career Opportunities: This course provides education and training for the building industry at technician level to impart skills necessary to effectively operate at middle management level in the residential building sector. People who graduate from this course having a carpentry or brick laying trade meet the academic requirements for licensing as a builder in NSW. Progression to the diploma level will provide education and technical training for a person to work within the industrial and commercial sectors of the building industry and multi occupancy residential developments.
Articulation: When you finish this course you may be eligible to do the 90945NSW Diploma of Building Studies and the 90949NSW Diploma of Quantity Surveying or apply for entry to building, construction, construction management, or housing courses at several universities that offer Architecture and Construction Management/Economics degrees. Each applicant will be assessed according to individual attainment.
Entry Requirements: Year 12 with a minimum of 10 units in the NSW HSC Record of Achievement (or equivalent from another educational authority) or a trade certificate from a related discipline. All students entering this course are required under legislation to have completed a course in OH&S Induction for Construction work in NSW. This must be done prior to participating in any field day activity that may be required as a part of this course and to show evidence of the like by the presentation of a current green card.
