TDM40307 Certificate IV in Transport and Distribution (Coastal Maritime Operations - Master Class 4)

This course focuses on developing the practical skills and knowledge required to work as a Master Class 4 / Skipper Grade 2.

As a Master Class 4 you will learn how to take charge of commercial vessels less than 80 metres in length operating up to 15 nautical miles from the coast and less than 35 metres in length, up to Australian coastal and middle waters limits (600 nautical miles).

As a Skipper Grade 2 you can command licensed fishing vessels less than 80 metres in length operating up to 200 nautical miles from the coast and less than 35 metres in length, up to 600 nautical miles from the coast.

Evidence of sea time/service on board a vessel will be required to obtain a certificate of competency from the state regulatory authority.

Career Opportunities/Vocational Outcomes: Master Class 4. Upon gaining the qualification, graduates may continue gaining experience on larger vessels in order to progress to a Master 3 certificate of competency for foreign going vessels. This can be achieved by completing TDM50506 Diploma of Transport and Distribution (Coastal Maritime Operations - Master Class 3), TAFE NSW course no: 17450.

Entry Requirements: Completion of TDM30407 Certificate III in Transport and Distribution (Coastal Maritime Operations - Master Class 5).

Ballina - Flexible delivery over 36 weeks (1 year). The Maritime section is open on Tuesday and Wednesdays, 4.00 pm - 9.00 pm; Thursdays, 9.00 am - 4.00 pm and Fridays, 9.00 am - 3.00 pm.
