This course is for people interested in general construction. You will learn how to produce quality work efficiently in the building and construction industry. The course content specifically meets the needs of the residential sector of the industry covering the basic skills and knowledge relevant to construction, maintenance and renovation practices. The course will include how to apply safe working practices and it will give you an understanding of the building industry in context.

Career Opportunities: Learners will be able to pursue a career in building and construction from trade level and beyond to managerial level by articulating into post-trade courses, diploma, advanced diploma and university courses.

Articulation: Successful completion of this course allows learners to articulate into and from any General Construction course, which contains comparable competency standards. Successful learners can also articulate into other relevant Construction National Training Packages qualifications such as Civil and Off-Site.

Entry Requirements: There are no formal educational entry requirements for this course. However, learners who gain entry to this course, must successfully complete a General Construction OHS Induction course/unit/module BEFORE being permitted entry into a TAFE NSW controlled worksite, workshop or participating in any construction or building activity, including the handling, sorting, stacking grading, recycling or disposal of any building or related materials. A General Construction OHS Induction course/unit/module can be undertaken by enrolling in TAFE NSW module, 1209A Induction as provided for in this course. Alternatively, learners may undertake a similar or equivalent approved course/unit/module with another Registered Training Organisation.
