TDM30101 Certificate III in Transport and Distribution (Maritime Operations) - Master Class V course

This course is for people who want to command a commercial vessel of less than 24 metres.

You will learn how to take charge of a commercial vessel of less than 24 metres operating offshore within 100 nautical miles. Evidence of sea time/service on board a vessel will be required to obtain a certificate of competency from the state regulatory authority.

Career Opportunities: The next career step for a person with this qualification is to become a master class 4. This career option is available upon gaining further sea experience and undertaking an additional course - TDM40101 Certificate IV in Transport and Distribution (Maritime Operations), TAFE course no: 8166.

Articulation: When you finish this course you may be able to apply for advanced standing in TDM40101 Certificate IV in Transport and Distribution (Maritime Operations), TAFE NSW course no: 8166.

Entry Requirements: TDM10101 Certificate I in Transport and Distribution (Maritime Operations) or TDM20101 Certificate II in Transport and Distribution (Maritime Operations) or successful completion of a Certificate of Competency as Coxswain plus evidence of experience as required by NSW Waterways, or evidence of experience as a deck hand or general purpose hand in commercial vessels as required by NSW Waterways.

Note: If a student entering this course via the latter pathway has not completed training equivalent to the Elements of Shipboard Safety, specified in Schedule 3 of Section 2 of the Uniform Shipping Laws Code, then the Group 2 modules of this course should be completed before doing practical training onboard a vessel.  It is anticipated that very few participants will be in this situation.
