This course provides an introduction to print, radio, television and online journalism. Students develop essential skills in writing, research, interviewing and reporting through a combination of class and project work and work experience in the media industry.
The core subjects develop knowledge of cultural, social, legal and political aspects of today's media industry, along with practical skills working in industry. Electives develop writing, information technology and communication skills relevant to a range of career options.
Career Opportunities: communication and media skills are highly regarded by employers across a range of positions. The course provides pathways into careers in journalism, radio and television broadcasting, newspaper, magazine and book editing, online publishing, public relations, promotions and marketing, and publicity and events management.
Articulation: Graduates may receive advanced standing of up to one year in degrees in Communication and Media at leading Australian universities including one year advanced standing in the Communication degree at Charles Sturt university.
Entry Requirements: NSW Higher School Certificate (or equivalent statement from another educational authority).
Student Selection: There are two selection criteria and they are equally important. Your application will be assessed using the following selection criteria:
1. Education and Training (50%) - Evidence will demonstrate your current and previous education and training and any factors that may have influenced the type and level of education and training you have undertaken.
2.
Relevance to Career Plans and Goals (50%) - Evidence will demonstrate the relevance of the course to your career goals.
