Certificate III in HSC Studies (91146NSW)
Qualification: Certificate III (AQF)
TAFE NSW Course No: 6500
Your study program will depend on your previous experience and the amount of time you can spend studying for the HSC.
There is a broad range of general education and vocational HSC courses to choose from, offered in the day or evening. The NSW Board of Studies (BOS) has developed the HSC curriculum and is responsible for managing completion requirements including the final examinations.
The BOS awards the HSC credential. HSC assessment results achieved in your TAFE study are reported by TAFE to the BOS as part of the minimum completion requirements for the HSC. HSC & Tertiary Preparation Programs booklets are available at www.tafensw.edu.au/flexible/hsc.htm. You can seek advice from any campus and from TAFE NSW Counsellors.
Vocational Courses: vocational courses are offered in the HSC, either as Board Developed Curriculum Frameworks or Board Endorsed Non-curriculum Frameworks. The courses contain at least two units of study and lead to an AQF qualification, suitable for entry to further study and work.
Universities Admission Index (UAI): The UAI is used to determine entry to most university courses. The UAI is based on an aggregate of scaled marks in 10 units of Board Developed Courses. These units comprise the best two units of English and the best remaining 8 units from the HSC units studied, including at least 3 courses of 2 units or more and at least 4 subjects. No more than 2 units of Category B courses are to be included in the UAI. Vocational education and training (VET) units studied as part of the HSC are Category B units. You do not need a UAI to continue your studies in TAFE NSW.
Career Opportunities: You will have the opportunity, on completion of the HSC, to enter the workforce or to apply for higher level courses at TAFE NSW or university.
Articulation: Credit transfer may be available from suitable HSC study into TAFE Certificate and diploma courses.
Entry requirements for all programs of study: The NSW School Certificate or Certificate II in General and Vocational Education (90279NSW) or equivalent. You must attend an information session and/or interview with course managers at the campus, TAFE NSW Counsellor or other designated officer(s) to ensure that the course is appropriate.
