91405NSW Diploma of Communication and Media

This course will help you develop a broad range of skills in communication and media, opening up employment options across a wide range of industries. Depending on units chosen, you will develop competencies in writing and editing, presentation, project management and small media production, interpersonal skills, the use of communication technology tools and a range of specialised technical, creative and/or conceptual skills. It may also prepare you for positions where you are required to exercise accountability for personal and group outcomes. Career Opportunities: Arts officer, information officer, public relations, event facilitator, publicity officer, community development officer, event facilitator in non-government organisation, professional technical communicator, small media information officer, media officer, assistant producer, corporate communication officer.

Articulation: This course will help you meet entry requirements for TAFE and university courses in communication and media. Graduates will be able to gain advanced standing in a number of Training Package qualifications, depending on which electives are successfully completed. Articulation and credit transfer to selected tertiary courses including university courses is being negotiated.

Entry Requirements: NSW Higher School Certificate (or equivalent)or appropriate industry experience including some supervision or responsibility for output in a communication and/or media role.

Student Selection:
SELECTION CRITERIA There are two selection criteria and they are equally important. Your application will be assessed using the following selection criteria:
-Education and Training (50%)
Evidence will demonstrate your current and previous education and training and any factors that may have influenced the type and level of education and training you have undertaken.
-Relevance to Career Plans and Goals (50%)
Evidence will demonstrate the relevance of the course to your career goals. You should:
- indicate your reasons for undertaking the course, including your career plans and goals
- include any other factors relevant to your application, which may include:
- your paid or unpaid work experience
- your life and community experience
- knowledge of the career area
- any other factors that influenced your career plans and goals.
