This course is for metal fabrication apprentices and has replaced the former blacksmithing, boilermaking, welding and sheetmetal trade courses.

You will learn how to work with metal. The course will allow you to specialise in a specific area, depending on your work needs. Specialisations include: sheetmetal, ventilation and air-conditioning ducting, plate and structural sections, pressure vessels, the forging of custom parts and welding.

You choose your modules according to your industry classification. Depending on the modules you choose, you will acquire a variety of skills in marking out, forming, assembly and the welding of metals.

The course duration will vary depending on the training pathway agreed to between you, your employer and the campus. A standard pathway will consist of off-the-job training (usually three years) plus additional work experience.

Career Opportunities: Tradesperson (metal fabrication and associated industries).

Articulation: When you finish this course you can enrol in the MEM40105 Certificate IV in Engineering or other engineering courses.
