This course is for people entering, or wishing to enter, the landscape sector of the horticulture industry as an assistant to a tradesperson landscaper. It is also suitable for people who may be seeking employment as an apprentice landscaper or who may intend to progress to a trade level qualification in horticulture.
In conjunction with relevant practical experience, the course enables you to develop sound underpinning knowledge and a broad range of practical skills required to assist in constructing and renovating garden landscapes, such as in private gardens, public parks and reserves, recreational facilities, housing estates and industrial complexes.
You will learn to recognise plants; plant trees and shrubs; prune shrubs and small trees; establish turf and renovate graded areas; install irrigation and drainage systems; install aggregate paths; lay paving; and construct retaining walls. You will also learn how to observe environmental work practices; follow occupational health and safety procedures; communicate effectively in the workplace; and work effectively in the industry. The course meets the training requirements for traineeships in Horticulture (Landscape).
Career Opportunities: Landscaping assistant, landscape worker, paving and surfacing worker.
Articulation: When you finish this course you can apply for advanced standing in RTF30403 Certificate III in Horticulture (Landscape), TAFE course no: 1699 or RTF30103 Certificate III in Horticulture, TAFE course no: 1586.
