TAFE Statement in Farming Small Areas

This course is for people with little or no farming experience who intend setting up and operating a small area farm. You learn about physical farm resources such as the farm, farm improvements, farm machinery and farm water supplies and irrigation.

You also learn about enterprise selection for a farm, including pastures and crops, livestock, fruit and vegetable production and about some financial, legal and public obligations of farm management.

The practical sessions are usually held on weekends. They include three or four days of practical work, learning a range of farming skills, such as fencing, soil testing, livestock handling, crop production and machinery operation. You will also go on three or four field trips to evaluate various small area farm enterprises.

Career Opportunities: Small area farmer.

Entry Requirements: There are no formal educational requirements for this course.
