This course is for people who want to work in retail operations and/or supervision. You will learn how to maintain store safety and security and build relationships with customers. You will also be able to choose from a range of electives including the areas of business management, sales and product knowledge. This will take place through a combination of individual and team based learning strategies that include practical activities, industry case studies, role plays, simulations, projects and assignments.
Career Opportunities: Sales assistant, customer service representative, crew leader, shift manager, team leader, department or assistant store manager, checkout supervisor and merchandise coordinator.
Articulation: When you finish this course you can do SIR40207 Certificate IV in Retail Management (TAFE NSW course no 17486).
Entry Requirements: There are two alternative pathways for entry into the Certificate III in Retail. The candidate must either:
- Be recognised as competent, through a recognised training program or recognition process, against the following units of competency:

- Have sufficient relevant retail employment experience. A current or previous job role that involves or has involved the application of the above competencies, would be a satisfactory indicator for entry. A determination need not involve a formal process of measuring, evaluating or recording performance against the units of competency. Examples of evidence to support a determination could include: job descriptions and references from current or past employers an entry interview to determine what competencies have been applied in the retail environment in a paid or voluntary capacity.
