Training needs analysis

  • Does your business need to update to remain competitive?
  • Are you investing in new technology?
  • Do you want to change the way your staff relate to customers, and each other?
  • Has your market or product range expanded?
  • Are legislative changes affecting your business?

If the answer to any of these questions is ‘yes’, but you are not sure where to start in ensuring that your business responds well to these or other challenges, read on to see how North Coast TAFE can work with you to implement a Training Needs Analysis (TNA) for your business.

A well-conceived TNA is rather like an audit process – but one that you can control and direct. It simply looks at where your business is now, and where you want it to be, and then offers a suggested series of steps for you to take it there. It may include surveys, interviews, questionnaires, or information reviews – the choices are entirely up to you.

The potential for business development and improvement through a TNA can be very varied. Your benefit could be around improving occupational health and safety incident rates to reduce insurance costs; converting more customer enquiries to sales through changes to the way front-line staff answer phones or counter enquiries; or even improving the productivity of part-time, casual, or seasonal workers.

Sometimes the suggested steps to improvement may end up being changes in process or even business strategy, but often it comes down to just training. It is amazing how much a business can benefit when everyone on the staff does their jobs effectively, and works together to help the business grow.

The old adage ‘its people are a business’s most valuable resource’ somehow has become only truer as technology increasing impinges. Frequently only the people in your business can provide that ‘point of difference’ in a competitive environment. And the good thing is that skills development improves the job satisfaction levels of the individuals, as well as the bottom-line of the business!

So if you feel that your business has challenges or opportunities ahead, make an email enquiry or contact the Business Support Team on our Employer Services Hotline 180004TAFE (8233) to discuss how North Coast TAFE can help you meet them.
