commercial cookery culinary arts program
The North Coast Institute is also accredited as a delivery and assessment centre for City and Guilds (UK). This arrangement provides an opportunity to offer a unique Commercial Cookery/Culinary Arts Program, at our Kingscliff Campus. This program allows students to achieve two major internationally recognised qualifications in one year -

Certificate IV in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery), TAFE NSW
Advanced Diploma in Culinary Arts, City and Guilds (UK).

program content
The Commercial Cookery/Culinary Arts Program uses innovative and interactive learning methods to help students to realise their full potential. The program is structured over 45 weeks, consisting of three 15 week semesters, from January to December.
Students spend 40 hours per week participating in:

Theory and practical classes in cookery and management skills
Work placement in fine dining establishments
On-site tours in the hotel industry
Guest lectures in cookery management and related areas
Self-directed project work

English language training
English language training is available at the North Coast Institute's English Language Centre. Students can study English from Elementary to Advanced English in a direct entry program.

entry requirements
Year 12 or equivalent or Certificate III in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery) or equivalent or 4 years industry experience. Students whose first language is not English must provide proof of English proficiency. Accepted standards include:

IELTS – 5.5 with no band less than 5
TOEFL – Paper based test 530,

austudy and abstudy
(applicable to Australian students only)
Austudy provides income support, on a non-competitive basis, to students 16 years of age and over undertaking approved full-time secondary or tertiary studies. Abstudy provides a living allowance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in both full-time and part-time study. Further information may be obtained from Centrelink.


visas for international students
Students must obtain a student visa prior to commencing the course.
Students may apply for a work permit once they have commenced the course. An international student can work up to 20 hours per week during semester and full-time during vacation.

Prospective students who are Australian residents should complete a North Coast Institute Icon - PDF Document Student Registration form (PDF, 177KB) for the Tourism and Hospitality Faculty and forward to North Coast Institute, PO Box 528, Port Macquarie 2444 NSW. Students will then be asked to attend an interview in person or by phone.

international students
Overseas residents should complete the International Student Application form and send to the North Coast Institute. Certified copies of all supporting documentation must accompany the application. Official translations of documents must also be included.
