BiLo trainee nominated for major award

Michelle Weaver, a trainee at BiLo Laurieton has been nominated for Australian Business Trainee of the Year. She is the first BiLo trainee in the Hastings area to be nominated for this award. Michelle was nominated by the Manager of the store, Christina Andrews who acknowledged her strong willingness to please, desire to achieve and commitment to work.

“Michelle has performed duties at supervisor level and has shown her ability to delegate to those that were once her peers. She does this by creating a team environment and leads by example. Her ability to resolve issues as quickly as possible is appreciated by both customers and staff” said Christina Andrews.

During her time with BiLo Laurieton Michelle has successfully completed studies with the North Coast Institute of TAFE and gained the Award for High Academic Achievement in Certificate II in Retail Operations, presented at the recent graduation ceremony of the Port Macquarie Campus.

“Through my TAFE course I have developed excellent grounding for what is required of me in “real world” situations. The on-the-job training has made study easier and given me many opportunities to relate theory and practice,” said Michelle.

“My study has been focused in the retail area which, I can now see, offers a wide variety of career choices. I’ve done subjects in areas like Human resources, Finance, Operations, Marketing and Sales. I also feel that my learning is not just for now, but it also helps me recognise where my skills might take me in the future”.

“The position that I currently hold, requires me to supervise up to ten service assistants at any one time so my course has been great in preparing me for that responsibility, as well as making me more confident for customer contact and meeting challenges”.

Michelle has completed her Certificate III in Retail Operations and intends to take her studies to a higher level in 2004 as she is extremely interested in a career in Retail Management.
