Gold Medal Winners

Wednesday 27th October

Dedication and many hours of training paid off for two students when they competed in the Youth Skills competition in New Zealand and both won gold medals in the hairdressing competition.

The Youth Skills competitions are conducted to challenge young people aged 16-24 to achieve work skills excellence. The Youth Skills competition was used as a training event for the regional WorldSkills competitions in Australia which will be held after June 2005.

The students, Giarna Allport of Taree - Clippers Salon and Amber Wadswell of Tamworth - Codon and Brooks Salon, are now looking forward to competing in the Regional WorldSkills competition in 2005.

Donna DeMaria, TAFE NSW – North Coast Institute teacher, said, “The students were competitive and motivated, wanting to do well. We need to promote our young people and recognise what they do”.
