‘Bah Art’ – ‘East Art’ Exhibition
Thursday 3rd November 2005
The Arts and Media section of TAFE NSW - North Coast Institute, Great Lakes Campus, is featuring a unique exhibition of paintings and sculpture by emerging Aboriginal artists who reside in the Taree and Forster regions.
The students have been working under the expert guidance of local artists and TAFE teachers Russell Saunders (a community elder who received an OAM for services to Indigenous Art in June 2005), Jim Madrid, Michelle Pressley, Jody Duck and Elizabeth Jones. Elders Aunty Mae Simon and Pam Kellner, along with Jaycent Davies have also provided valuable educational and cultural support during the course.
On show for the first time will be a number of individual digital stories that present the artist and showcase selected artworks. These short stories created by the students are a visual presentation for marketing and documenting their own works and to showcase their diverse mix of styles and expressions.
The students are currently enrolled in the Certificate II & III in Aboriginal Arts and Cultural Practices, a course offered through the Arts and Media section of the Great Lakes Campus and offered at both the Taree and Great Lakes campuses.
Bah Art meaning ‘East Art’ will be an exciting cultural celebration and members of the public are invited to this very special exhibition and opening, where there will be great entertainment, with performances by the Forster Public School Koori Dancers and Russell Sanders, playing the digeridoo. This as in other exhibitions has proven to be a great opportunity for the general public and local business communities to view and purchase emerging Aboriginal artists’ works at affordable prices.
The exhibition will be open from Tuesday 8th November until 18th November 2005 and is open Monday – Friday 9am-3pm. For more information please contact Head Teacher Sandra Guy on 6555 0616.
