Student Achievement Awards 2005

Tuesday 9th August

A former flight attendant who was forced to change careers by the Ansett Airlines collapse has been named 2005 Student of the Year by TAFE NSW – North Coast Institute.

Margaret Negus, from Coffs Harbour, also scooped up the top student award in the Community Services and Health Faculty following her outstanding performance in the Diploma in Children’s Services course at Coffs Harbour Education Campus.

Besides standing out academically, achieving mainly distinctions in her two-year Diploma course, Ms Negus’s personality and life experience enriched the learning outcomes of all in her class, who benefited from her support and common sense, the North Coast Institute’s Student Achievement Awards Ceremony was told.

In addition, a sun-safety project Ms Negus undertook as part of her course has had lasting benefits for the campus, with students, staff and children involved in course play sessions all now better equipped for healthy exposure to the sun.

Ten other outstanding students received recognition during the annual awards ceremony, held on Wednesday night (August 3) at the Osprey Restaurant at the Coffs Harbour Education Campus.

The awards recognise outstanding achievements in academic effort, community involvement and career commitment and go to students in individual Institute Faculties and in six other major categories.
