Boating Industry Offering Careers for Local Students

Monday 22nd August

Mid North Coast students entering Year 11 next year will have a new opportunity to set a career path towards the manufacturing and boating industries.

The DET Vocational Education Consultant for the North Coast, Sue Wines, says “The new program Career Link, Marine and Composites is one of a number of initiatives taken by schools and TAFE NSW to maximise local career opportunities for students. Successful students will complete industry recognised qualifications in Metal and Engineering and Plastics (Composites), making them ready for work and very employable on completion of their HSC ‘.

The New South Wales Department of Education and Training, TAFE NSW - North Coast Institute, Greater Taree City Council, Mid North Coast Marine and Composites Group and local employers such as Steber International have combined to deliver the program which was launched at the Greater Taree City Council chambers on Thursday 18 August 2005.

TAFE NSW - North Coast Institute will work with local industries from the Mid North Coast Marine and Composites Industry Group to deliver on-the-job training in the Plastics (Composites) certificate II course. Students will also study Metal & Engineering at Taree Campus and all subjects count towards the students' HSC qualification.

Institute VET for Schools Consultant, Lyn Dun, says “The North Coast Institute is working with industry and schools to provide nationally recognised training in a school based traineeship that is also part of the Higher School Certificate. Students will learn as they earn and be ready to take their place in a variety of local industries once they have completed their senior secondary studies”.
