“CREATE” Lets laugh together
An exhibition of Drawings and Paintings
Wednesday 13th of July
The Arts & Media Section of TAFE NSW - North Coast Institute, Great Lakes Campus, recently featured a colourful exhibition of drawings and paintings by some very special art students, the clients of Redshaw Cottage.
Head Teacher of the Equity Section, Val Stack officially opened the exhibition to a crowd of forty or more people. The exhibition was the culmination of a unique educational opportunity which was formed through the collaboration of the Arts and Media and Equity Sections of the North Coast Institute and Redshaw Cottage. This collaboration has provided the clients with an array of creative learning experiences that offer a unique outlet for self expression.
The course is designed to provide opportunities for the students to learn a wide variety of skills that will be beneficial for active participation in the community and workplace, as well as individual growth and self esteem. During the year, these students with special needs have learnt basic drawing and painting skills, as well as participating in a group project which created a Digital Story documenting their creative achievements.
The course and resulting exhibition has been a positive and successful experience for both students and teachers Lynette Connors and Elizabeth Jones. Due to its success, Redshaw Cottage is keen for all of their suitable clients to continue to experience this enriching art program.
The collaboration will continue next semester, with more exciting art experiences, including sculpture. Staff and students want to say a big thankyou to all that supported the exhibition opening.
