Local Student has got IT
Monday 19th September
Stephen McLeod and Clayton Rotumah, students of Information Technology at TAFE NSW-North Coast Institute have been awarded scholarships to assist with their studies. Mr Colin Ware, Managing Director of Lester Associates, presented the students with their scholarships at special ceremonies this week.
Lester Associates, contract management specialists in IT and the accounting/financial industries, are sponsoring $180,000 worth of scholarships over the next three years to assist Indigenous people to gain meaningful qualifications and employment in Information Technology.
“I have visited many places in Australia and seen first hand that the challenges facing Aboriginal communities can be quite substantial” says Mr Ware. “These scholarships are one way we can invest training money where we believe it will do the most good.”
Mr Ware says “I hope that we can help inspire a desire to achieve. The scholarships will be structured to reward success at each stage of the course. Ultimately I hope to see people get meaningful qualifications and related employment and to be encouraged to continue study to get their diploma or degree.”
Lester Associates has partnered with TAFE NSW to help implement the scheme. Mr Ware says “TAFE training ensures the recipients will get real skills, confidence, self-respect and qualifications which will be recognised by the whole community.”
Marie Aloise, Faculty Manager at TAFE NSW-North Coast Institute said that the partnership with Lester Associates is an excellent opportunity to encourage Aboriginal students on the North Coast to participate in the dynamic IT industry. Participating students will be mentored through the program whether they are full time students, trainees or students in the workplace studying flexibly.”
