Golf Day to raise funds for local Worldskills competitors
Wednesday 13th of July
A fund-raising event is being held at Emerald Downs Golf Course on Sunday 24 July to help local students’ preparation for the regional Worldskills competition later this year.
“In this climate of skills shortages, it’s important to focus on any activity that helps address the issue,” says Donna deMaria, Team Leader for WorldSkills and Teacher, Hairdressing at Port Macquarie Campus, TAFE NSW – North Coast Institute. “A fundraiser like this is an ideal opportunity for the local community to support the efforts put in by the students to get to the top of their field.”
Two students from TAFE NSW-North Coast Institute Port Macquarie Campus won medals at last year’s national Worldskills competition. Port Macquarie resident Jacqueline Stocks won a bronze medal in Garment Production and valued the experience highly. Not only was the competition about honing existing skills and gaining new skills, it was also about the excitement of the event and seeing a great variety of skills on show. “I was able to see people working on cars, building houses, manicuring nails, performing great haircuts…everything!” Jacqueline said.
The event will include a 4-person Ambrose competition and there will be prizes and a barbecue on the day. Sponsors for the event include TAFE NSW-North Coast Institute, Mid Coast Group Training, Country Energy and St Joseph’s Vocational Campus.
