At the NSW Training Awards Regional Presentations, held in Coffs Harbour on 14 July, 2006, three students who studied with TAFE NSW-North Coast Institute received major awards for their outstanding results.

The Award for the North Coast Apprentice of the Year went to Gregory Simpson, who studied the Certificate III in Plumbing at the Institute’s Coffs Harbour Campus. Mr Simpson is employed at Emerald Beach Plumbing, who nominated him for the award.

The Award for the North Coast Trainee of the Year went to Katie Hirst, who studied the Certificate III in Business Administration at the Institute’s Grafton Campus.

Ms Hirst is employed at the Grafton Rural Lands Protection Board through North Coast Group Training.

The Award for the North Coast Vocational Student of the Year went to student Raelene Brookes who completed her Tertiary Preparation Course at Wollongbar Campus. Ms Brookes recently won the North Coast Institute’s Student Achievement Award for the General Education Faculty.

The North Coast Employer of the Year award was shared by Express Coach Builders, Macksville, who partner with the North Coast Institute’s Coffs Harbour Education Campus in delivering a range of traineeships and apprenticeships, and Tweed Heads accountancy firm Watson and Fenton Ltd.

Elizabeth McGregor, acting Institute Director, said that she was delighted that the students and Express Coach Builders had been recognised for their commitment towards vocational education. “I look forward to seeing them achieve even greater results in the future…and I hope that they might join us on the stage receiving the State-wide award in September.”

TAFE NSW-North Coast Institute is shortlisted for the third year in a row for NSW Large Training Provider of the Year. The four students and Express Coach Builders are also short-listed for the NSW state-wide Awards.
