TAFE students able to fast track IT career through university
Thursday 21st September 2006
TAFE NSW – North Coast Institute has special arrangements in a range of courses with many regional universities like Southern Cross University, University of Newcastle and Charles Sturt University that enable students to commence a course at TAFE and ‘articulate’ into a degree course towards the end of the course. For example, students who are currently studying the Diploma of Information Technology at TAFE have received offers of places from Southern Cross University in Bachelor of Information Technology or Bachelor of Applied Computing.
The offer also states that Diploma students who complete their TAFE studies with Distinction could be granted credit for anywhere from 12 to 16 units with as few as eight units remaining to complete their Degree in some cases.
“This is an exciting prospect for last year’s IT students, and an even more exciting prospect for our local high school students about to complete their HSC and who are considering a career in Information Technology – they have the opportunity to fast-track their IT career,” Chrishna Dixon, Head Teacher, Information Technology at Taree and Great Lakes Campuses said.
Ms Dixon added that there were bonuses in that the Degrees are offered by Distance Education and with 16 units of credit could be completed in as little as 12 months – with no campus attendance required.
Ms Dixon said that applications for 2007 TAFE NSW courses are already open and recommended that prospective students thinking of studying next year should get their applications in by October 27 in order not to miss out.
