‘Confetti’ mosaic adds colour to TAFE Campus

Wednesday 13 September 2006

A colourful mosaic was unveiled at the Great Lakes Joint Education Campus on Wednesday 13th September. TAFE students enrolled in Certificate III in Fine Arts researched and participated in the creation of a group developed artwork using contemporary practices, resulting in a colourful mosaic titled “Life in the Confetti World”.

“Students had been given a brief to organise and design a public artwork for the Great Lakes Campus, from conception through to installation. This was to be a hypothetical proposal,” said Elizabeth Jones, Acting Head Teacher, Great Lakes Campus.

Students were encouraged by teachers Elizabeth Jones and Michelle Pressley to consider the teaching and learning culture of the campus, and as a result many ideas were explored and researched. Proposals are showcased within the exhibition space at the Great Lakes Campus, L Block.

Ms Jones said that Emma Pitsch’s design was chosen by the group to be developed as it was perceived to be achievable within the given time frame whilst providing the opportunity for new skill development.

“Emma’s ideas and choice of colours and shapes have helped to produce an exciting and happy artwork and this was to represent arts and media as a colourful aspect of student life,” said Ms Jones.  Each student developed the concept further by arranging mosaic tiles within a myriad of different colours, shapes and lines.

“It has certainly colourfully added to the sense of place and culture of the TAFE learning environment here at Great Lakes Campus,” said Ms Jones. The mosaic can be viewed on the Arts and Media external wall of L Block, Great Lakes Campus.
