Speed on Tweed and TAFE great partners
Friday 27 October 2006
TAFE NSW-North Coast Institute's Murwillumbah Campus has an enthusiastic automotive section who have committed to providing specialist workshop support to the annual Speed on Tweed automotive festival in Murwillumbah each year. In 2006 the Institute increased its support of the festival becoming both a silver sponsor and Insignia Member.
As part of its stated role, "to advance our region economically, socially, culturally and environmentally through excellence in vocational education services", the Institute is announcing an increased support of Speed on Tweed in 2007. As part of that support the Kingscliff and Murwillumbah Campuses are both signing on as individual Insignia Members. Marj Goward, Murwillumbah Campus Manager says, “Insignia Membership is a real practical demonstration of our commitment to the Murwillumbah community and the Tweed Shire; it also shows our support for Speed on Tweed which offers our students great work experience opportunities in a number of vocational areas.”
The Speed on Tweed organising committee said that TAFE NSW-North Coast Institute had been “a fabulous supporter” every year. “They were there at the beginning, helping us with our ideas and have increased their partnership involvement every year,” says Catherine Donaldson, Event co-ordinator. The Murwillumbah Campus has had a workshop in the pits of Speed on Tweed for running repairs to damaged race cars. Next year not only will the Institute be bringing their students to the circuit to repair cars, but they will be involving their design and hospitality students to help with developing other aspects of the Festival.
Ms Donaldson says that the Festival of Speed on Tweed INSIGNIA membership is for those organisations in the area that want to be more closely involved and to support the Festival.
“TAFE have been one of our most enthusiastic members of INSIGNIA which is one of the reasons why the membership in 2006 has been such a phenomenal success. Each INSIGNIA member, TAFE included, also had the pleasure of hosting an entrant in the race and their name was proudly displayed on two cars.”
“This has been a great way for the town to really help the event by joining our exclusive new membership base,” says Ms Donaldson. ‘It was our first year in 2006 and we opened it up to 100 members and in 2007 we will go to 200 members.”
“There are going to be extra benefits this year with a lap around the circuit to be won by one lucky member. We will also hold monthly prize draws for members and offer them discounts on merchandise and free entry into the event as well as loads of other benefits.”
Previous members will be given first option to buy a membership and then it is open to the public. To find out more about Speed on Tweed INSIGNIA membership or to go on the mailing list, people can contact the office on 66 72 1796 or email speedontweed@stacklaw.com.au
