World Environment Day observed with free gifts for TAFE students

Thursday 1st June 2006

All TAFE NSW-North Coast Institute students who are members of the TAFE Student Association are eligible to receive free energy and water saving packs as a way of observing World Environment Day, Monday 5th June, 2006.

The packs will be available from the Student Association Officer at each campus for a limited time only and consist of five energy saving light bulbs and one AAA rated water efficient showerhead.

“If all of our 2,500 Student Association Members took advantage of this, it would potentially achieve a saving of around 45 million litres of water and over 2000 tonnes of greenhouse gases over the next 12 months,” says Alicia Bales, the North Coast Institute’s Project Manager for Ecological Sustainability Initiatives.

Ms Bales says that over a year each pack could save students $160 on electricity and water bills, around 18,000 litres of water and over one tonne of greenhouse gas emissions.

TAFE students and staff who are not already student association members can join for $15 to take advantage of this great offer.

The offer of the energy and water saving packs was made possible by the support of Low Energy Supplies and Services (LESS), a participant in the NSW Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme.

“We started in 2001 with the purpose of assisting utilities and government agencies to implement energy and water efficiency programs,” says Cheryl Butterworth from LESS.

More information about Low Energy Supplies and Services programs and offerings can be found on their website www.lowenergy.com.au.
