Youth talent showcased in DVD

Saturday 17 June 2006

The results of 12 weeks of hard work by students of the TAFE Outreach Youth Media Project were enthusiastically received by parents and friends at the launch of eZine DVD at the Nambucca Cinema on Saturday 17 June at 10am.

The DVD showcased projects undertaken by the young people involved in the program and included an insight into “Demo Derby” by Joshua Mamone, “18 Years” a documentary on the history of the Nambucca Heads Skate Park by Daniel Perry, and a sensitive look at a young man facing life’s challenges in a short film “Serenity” by Daniel Stewart.  Kate Daley’s article from the Guardian News 22 April about the local “Volunteer Air Observation Corps” was on display outside the theatre.

“The response from the audience was fabulous” an excited Coordinator, Marilyn Pearson said after the showing.  “The projects were chosen by the students to reflect their own personal interests and the course content adjusted to accommodate them.  TAFE Outreach philosophy provides the framework for this kind of negotiated learning and is a great model for engaging people in continued education.  It has been challenging to incorporate the different projects into the structure of the course but the team of teachers were exceptional in achieving this.  The outcomes of the project have been determined by the students and what can one say but WOW!”

INDENT, MusicNSW & NSW Ministry of the Arts partnered with TAFE NSW-North Coast Institute to sponsor production of the eZine DVD and the launch.
The Youth Media Project also included training in Radio Broadcasting and music editing (provided by Goori Broadcasters), website design, blogging and writing for media.  The course ran for 3 days a week over the 12 weeks at the Nambucca Valley Youth Services Centre.
