Super course for retail supervisors-to-be

Monday 4th June 2007

TAFE NSW-North Coast Institute’s Great Lakes Campus is offering a course for people who are interested in gaining the skills required to take on a supervisor role in the retail industry.

Head Teacher of Business, Ann Edmonds says that the course is ideal for anyone who has completed a previous qualification like a level II Certificate in Retail or Retail Cosmetics or who has had two years experience in the retail industry.

“Students will learn relevant skills, like how to coordinate work teams, implement staff training, handle merchandise presentation and so on,” said Ms Edmonds, “and they can also choose specific modules around subjects like administration, employee relations and products and services.”

Former students who have successfully completed this course have been able to take on more responsibility in their respective workplaces and have commented that they are more “motivated” and find their work more “stimulating” and “challenging”.

“Retail Cosmetics was a very rewarding and enjoyable experience for me,” said student, Angela Johns. “The combination of retail and cosmetics in the course gave me more opportunities in the beauty or retail industry - it was fantastic!”

Ann Edmonds said that successful completion of the course meant gaining a nationally accredited qualification that provides students with the opportunity, if they wish, to go onto further study in Retail Management.
