TAFE health seminar covers best practices in wound care

Wednesday 31st January 2007
The effective management of wounds will be the major point of discussion at a seminar to be held at Old Bar on 16 March, 2007.

Aimed at nurses and health workers on the North Coast, the seminar has been organised by the Nursing section of TAFE NSW-North Coast Institute’s Taree Campus and will specifically cover aspects of wound care such as skin tear management, prevention of pressure ulcers, compression bandaging and diabetic foot assessment.

Head Teacher of Nursing, Loretta Alexander, says that she believes that there will be great interest from the healthcare industry in the region.

“We receive many enquiries regarding courses in wound care,” says Ms Alexander. “The seminar will be an opportunity to hear specialist practitioners share their knowledge and expertise with others working in this challenging area.”

Ms Alexander says that due to population growth, the Mid North Coast is facing increased demand for quality wound management, particularly in the area of Aged Care.

“Best practice techniques are constantly changing and developing, and exciting new products continually become available,” says Ms Alexander. “This seminar is a great way for all health care professionals to update and extend their knowledge.”

Ms Margo Asimus, Nurse Practitioner in Wound Management from Hunter New England Area Health Service, and Anne Heaney, Diabetes Clinical Nurse Consultant at North Coast Area Health Service will present best practice approaches and treatment, as will Karen Freeman, specialist wound care teacher from the Nursing section of the Community Services and Health Faculty from TAFE NSW-North Coast Institute.

There will also be trade displays from some of the leading companies involved in wound care.

The seminar is to be held on Friday 16th March 2007 from 9am – 4pm at Club Old Bar,1 Belford St, Old Bar at a cost of $95 (which includes morning tea & lunch). Interested participants can register up until Friday 2nd March 2007 by contacting Taree Campus on 65913600.
