TAFE NSW gets behind National Ride to Work Day

Wednesday 17th October 2007

TAFE NSW – North Coast Institute staff and students from campuses across the region made the ride to work on National Ride to Work Day.

The event , described as Australia’s biggest active workplace event took place on Wednesday 17 of October - thousands of regular and first-time riders from all states and territories participating with teams competing in the TravelSmart Workplace Challenge.

Institute Director and National Ride to Work Day Ambassador Elizabeth McGregor said after her ride, "I'm wholeheartedly behind the initiative."

“The environmental and health benefits of riding to work are already proven and as part of our own commitment to environmental sustainability, it’s important that we get behind this event and send the right message to the community,” Ms McGregor said.

“We’re hoping that the staff and students who took part had a real impact on global warming and started to reap the health benefits of getting active.”

“Research after last year’s national pilot event showed that 34% of first-time riders participating last year were still riding five months later” says Ms McGregor.

Ms McGregor says that Port Macquarie Campus has now set a regular monthly Ride to Work day and hopes other campuses will follow suit.
