TAFE, university partnership offers wide study options

Thursday 11th January 2007

Partnerships between TAFE NSW-North Coast Institute and both the University of Newcastle and Southern Cross University are making it possible for North Coast residents to explore wider study options in 2007, without necessarily leaving the region.

TAFE graduates on the North Coast have received letters offering guaranteed places in selected degree programs at both universities and Elizabeth McGregor, the Director of TAFE NSW-North Coast Institute says that eligible TAFE graduates have until 1 February 2007 to take advantage of the offer of guaranteed places, and would have to apply through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC). The website address is www.uac.edu.au.

Ms McGregor also confirmed that any students who want to re-consider their study plans following the announcement of the UAC preferences can take advantage of advanced standing for a range of higher education programs.

“Our graduates may receive credit from their TAFE qualifications towards a university degree program, which could mean that they complete their studies sooner,” says Ms McGregor.

“Equally, any school leavers who are not sure about taking on a University course should look closely at the option of commencing study for a TAFE qualification, and take advantage of the advanced university standing they will gain in a year or so,” added Ms McGregor.

‘We are enrolling now, and with vacancies in a range of courses, there are many flexible study options for potential students,’ concluded Ms McGregor.
