Business and retail skills tested at Taree TAFE Campus
Friday 25 May 2007
TAFE NSW – North Coast Institute’s Taree Campus was transformed into a virtual marketplace on Friday 25 May 2007, with nine ‘businesses’ showcasing and trading their offerings to scores of visitors from local schools and the general public.
The virtual businesses, part of the national network of Australian Practice Firms, included representation from Victoria and Central West NSW and were enthusiastically competing for several prizes.
The practice firm Chopper 1, run by the Business Administration students from the Coffs Harbour TAFE Glenreagh St Campus won ‘Best Display’ and were the overall winners.
The award for Best Customer Service went to local student Susie McLeod, who is studying her Certificate II in Business at Taree Campus. The practice firm Office Showcase won the award for Most Transactions for the day.
Students studying Business courses run the practice firms as part of their learning and they ‘trade’ with other firms around the state. The simulation is designed to be as close as possible to business reality to maximise learning outcomes – this includes the firms having their own cheque books, financial documents and business plan.
