Forty years celebrated by Wauchope TAFE Campus

TAFE NSW – North Coast Institute’s Wauchope College celebrated its fortieth anniversary on Saturday 26 May with an Open Day and a range of displays and activities.

The event commenced at 9:30 am, and there was guided tours and demonstrations and activities showcasing a range of skills and course offerings, including creative writing, floristry, Photoshop, horticulture, water recycling and carpentry.

An official welcome was staged at 10:30 am with short speeches from Institute Director Elizabeth McGregor and a teacher and student who attended the college when it first opened.

Ms McGregor said that the Wauchope community is growing, and the recently expanded college facilities were an example of how TAFE NSW – North Coast Institute is responding to community needs in vocational training and education.

The official welcome was followed by a fashion parade, a cutting of the 40th birthday cake and the opening of the art exhibition by Sharni Lloyd (ex-teacher and now Director of the Port Macquarie Hastings Regional Gallery). 

A sausage sizzle was running from11 am to 1 pm,and there were bus tours to view the award-winning public art project to Koree Island Pumping Station.At 12:30 there was an Anniversary auction of a range of items including second-hand laptop computers and floral arrangements from the display.
