Gallery Corridor Working Art

Monday 6th August, 2007

Working Art, an exhibition of artworks by nine teachers from the Art and Design School, TAFE NSW North Coast Institute, Great Lakes Campus was launched on Friday 3rd August, 2007. The Exhibition was officially opened by Richard Holloway, Regional Arts Development Officer, Arts Mid North Coast and was attended by over 100 guests.

This quality exhibition is a diverse showcase and demonstrates a range of media, subject matter, scale, style and techniques by our teachers;  Jo Davidson, Jody Duck, Ali Haigh, Jane Hosking, Elizabeth Jones, Pavel Lankas, David Lyons, Michelle Pressley and Steve Williams.

‘It’s essential that art teachers still continue to create in the studio,’ Head Teacher Steve Williams said.

‘As a title, Working Art says something about the dual working lives of TAFE art and design teachers.

‘As teachers they prepare, deliver, assess and perform a myriad of other duties, and outside the class and TAFE they work to maintain contact with their art practice and their industry – often as a labour of love.’

This exhibition marks the naming and launch of the Great Lakes Art & Design School exhibition space as the ‘Gallery Corridor’.

The Gallery’s role will be to promote the art activities within the Great Lakes Art & Design School and support initiatives between the School and the wider community.

GALLERY CORRIDOR is situated at L Block of the Great Lakes Campus, The Northern Parkway Tuncurry, entry is free and many of the artworks are for sale. Daily viewing is from Monday – Friday between 9am – 4pm . The exhibition continues through until Friday August 31.
