Three students from North Coast TAFE’s Kempsey Campus have taken out FIVE of the top awards in this year’s North Coast TAFE Student Achievement Awards.

The awards recognise the efforts of top-performing students from across the institute’s 17 campuses, incorporating more than 40,000 students.

Kempsey Campus' top automotive apprentice, Chris Isaac took out the top title – Student of the Year – as well as Apprentice of the Year and the Construction and the Transport faculty award while business trainee Holly-Dee Baker, from Kempsey, won the Trainee of the Year Award.

Kempsey High student, Stacey Clarke, was named the TVET Student of the Year.

A Lismore man, Anthony Franks, won the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year Award for his studies in Certificate IV in Business Governance.

The Student Achievement Awards were announced at a special Awards dinner held at the Osprey Restaurant, at Coffs Harbour Education Campus on June 5, 2008.

The awards recognise outstanding achievements in academic effort, community involvement and career commitment and go to students in individual Institute Faculties and in five other major categories.

The Director of TAFE NSW-North Coast Institute, Ms Elizabeth McGregor said that the standard this year was “extraordinarily high” and she was inspired and motivated by the level of achievement reached by the students.

“For us at TAFE our business is about enabling people to change their lives, and discover success,” Ms McGregor said.

“I want to thank the teachers at Kempsey Campus who make it their daily mission to help students believe in themselves, to foster a ‘can do’ belief in individuals as well as local businesses and the community.”

“I also want to say congratulations to the winning students who believed in themselves and made it happen, and I wish them every success in their journey in learning.”

Each of the award winners will now compete for the NSW Training Awards which will be announced on July 4, 2008.
