North Coast TAFE students set their eyes on top industry prize

Three North Coast TAFE students are in the running for the North Coast Entertainment Industry’s top awards, to be announced tonight in Lismore.
The 16th annual North Coast Entertainment Industry Association Dolphin Awards will be held at the One Nightclub, kicking off at 7pm.
“There were more than 600 entries this year so it is a fantastic achievement for not just one, but THREE, Grafton TAFE music students to have the made the finals in a number of categories,” TAFE head teacher of Art, Music and Media, Bruce Vickery, said.
“Our finalists have been selected in a variety of categories, highlighting the diversity of the training available here at TAFE.”
The three North Coast TAFE finalists include: Mary Gillies in the World/Reggae category for her song “Seasons of Hope”, Ally Ray in the Pop category for “Road Trip” and Siobhan Corcoran whose track “Shuffling Feet” has earned her a place in the finals of three categories including Youth, New Emerging Talent and Song of the Year.
All three women studied the Advanced Diploma of Music at Grafton TAFE Campus. Ally is currently (lead vocalist & guitar for the working band ‘Hekyl & Jive’ and Siobhan is at furthering her music education at Southern Cross University.
“The Dolphin Awards are the premier event for the North Coast entertainment industry,” Mr Vickery said.
“Media coverage of this event grows each year and as such the awards have become a genuine opportunity for aspiring talent to develop a local and national profile.”
