TAFE drives first-time auto course for Hastings schools

Monday 18th February 2008

As a result of a new partnership with North Coast TAFE and the Australian Technical College in Port Macquarie, fifteen school students in the Port Macquarie and Hastings region are now able to study a TVET course in automotive without having to travel.

Kempsey TAFE’s automotive teacher in charge, Michael Brenton, has negotiated the use of the ATC’s automotive workshop in Port Macquarie to deliver the TVET course to the school students.

"We are very fortunate to have access to this automotive workshop which mirrors current working conditions, complete with a full range of equipment, tools, hoists and other modern automotive facilities," says Mr Brenton.

The fifteen students, who come form a range of high schools in the Hastings region, are enrolled in the TVET (TAFE-delivered Vocational Education and Training) Certificate I automotive course as part of their Higher School Certificate studies.
