TAFE Childcare offers play sessions to Coffs families
Wednesday 6th February 2008
TAFE NSW-North Coast Institute’s Coffs Harbour Education Campus (CHEC) has announced a special shared learning opportunity for members of the Coffs community with young children under five and students studying Certificate III and Diploma in Children’s Services at the Campus.
During school terms at CHEC, weekly play sessions are organised by TAFE for 2 hours each week. The play sessions allow the students, families and TAFE teaching staff to interact within a supportive and enriched learning environment.
Margaret Spears, Teacher-in-Charge of Child and Family Services at CHEC says that the play sessions are designed to develop understandings of individual abilities, interests and beliefs.
“This then allows for self discovery and learning to occur for everyone taking part in our play session community experiences,” says Ms Spears.
Ms Spears emphasises that TAFE was focussed on providing a stimulating, safe environment for families to interact with other families.
“We believe in fostering a supportive environment that encourages exploration, interactions and play, both indoors and out,” says Ms Spears.
Ms Spears says that the range of provisions of the play session has been developed based upon information provided by parents and students, following their observations of individual children’s interests and abilities.
“This is, of course, combined with the most innovative theory and practices within the Early Childhood Education Profession exercised by our fully qualified TAFE staff,” says Ms Spears.
Places are limited, so Ms Spears emphasises that if anyone is interested in attending a weekly play session they should ring 6659 3609 and leave contact details, as well as the names and ages of their children on the voicemail message.
TAFE play sessions will be conducted on Tuesdays 9.30am – 11.30am, Wednesdays and Thursdays 10.00am – 11.30am.beginning February 26th 2008 for semester 1, 2008.
