Upgrade to Casino TAFE

Wednesday 26th March, 2008

NSW Minister for Education and Training, John Della Bosca today announced a development application has been lodged to local council for a major upgrade of facilities at North Coast TAFE’s Casino Campus.

Mr Della Bosca said the upgrade would ensure the future skill growth of the local area and provide first-class facilities.

“The new facilities will benefit more than 800 students enrolling each year in Business, Administration, Metal Fabrication and Welding, Shopfitting and Detail Joinery, Fine Arts and General Education,” Mr Della Bosca said.

The upgrade will include:

  • A computer lab upgrade including a state-of-the art model office for business and administration training;
  • two new general purpose classrooms with modern fixtures and fittings; and
  • new centralised teacher accommodation.

Mr Della Bosca said the upgrade would ensure Casino TAFE remained responsive to local industry needs.

“Casino is a major transport corridor and is flagged to become a major community centre in the next 30 years,” Mr Della Bosca said.

“The new multipurpose facilities will allow Casino TAFE to be flexible to changing industry training needs well into the future.

“The upgrade will include a refurbishment of the trades workshop, where students train in skill shortage areas including Metal Fabrication and Welding, and Detail Joinery.

“The new facilities will allow the College to meet increased demand for courses in Shopfitting and Business,” he said.

Last year more than 130 major TAFE upgrades were completed, with the Iemma Government providing $122 million this financial year to upgrade and maintain TAFE facilities.

“By investing heavily in multi-purpose training facilities we ensure students have flexible access to the most up-to-date equipment and allowing current and relevant training,” Mr Della Bosca said.

“It’s about providing students with real skills, making them more job-ready and strengthening the skills of the local workforce.”
